

Nicaragua is a country in Central America and is the largest of the Central American Republic. The size of Nicaragua is slightly bigger than the state of New York in the United States. Nicaragua is bordered by Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south. The Pacific Ocean borders the west while the Caribbean Sea borders the east. As a result of this Nicaragua has a910 kilometer long coastline. Add this to the 10,380 square kilometers and you will find that Nicaragua is a water wonderland. There is also 119,990 square kilometers of land and in total Nicaragua is 130,370 square kilometers. There is also around 2,000 square kilometers of irrigated land. The lowest point in Nicaragua is the Pacific ocean at 0 feet (0 meters). The highest point is Mogoton at 7,999 feet (2438 meters). Nicaragua has continued to suffer from disasters due to hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic activity and landslides. In Nicaragua you will find coastal plains, interior mountains, and old volcanos. The land use is Arable land: 12.46%, Permanent crops: 2.46%, and Other: 85.08%. You will find that the mountains in this country yield gold, silver, copper, tungsten, zinc and lead. Nicaragua is characterized into 3 different distinct zones. The first zone is the Pacific Lowlands with volcanic activity and fertile valleys along the western coast. The next zone is the Central Highlands with rugged mountains. The third region is the Caribbean lowlands, a flatter region often known as the mosquito coast.
